O, brother, where art thou?

---another movie of great depression----

This movie is about 3 prisoners who run away from jail. They were trying to jump up on the train while it was running! ( it's like in the movie i saw in the class!) however, they missed it because of the chain that hold three of them together ( if one of them fell down, others two also would).... then they walk along the railway and saw one old man on a swing cart, they hopped on with him and ran away to the town.

The leader of the group named everette, he told his friends name pete and delma that there are a treasure that could make them richer than anyone. The truth is that everette just wanna ran away to his wife because she said that she will get married again soon.

Three of them go to see thier one friend and sleep over in his barn, in the middle of the night, the police came to them because their friend betrays them. Their friend needs money to pay back the bank. however, they could run away.

on the way, they do so many things such as singing ( they got $10 each from that) . They sing pretty well and that song was so hit!......after that they went to everette's house and met his wife and daugthers. The police found them on the way they r walking to a house, everette prays to god and suddenly there was a flood!. Three of them survive from getting execute again and they thought that it was a miracle!

well i love this movie because of the facts that i saw in the movie are match with what i've seen in the movie that ajarn showed me in class. During the depression, friends could betray one another just because of money. Women find new husband while her ex husband was in jails and away from home. People borrow money from bank and cannot pay it back. Children are brave enough to drive a car and help the prisoners get away. These are something that occurs most in depression period.

Another reason why i love this movie because jorge cooney haha well, i love the song that he sings. It's fun and easy to listen!! umm i wish he could have sing more than one :)

Great depression : PAPER MOON

Paper moon is the first black and white movie among those movies that i've watched in Aspects of American Cultures class!!! It talks about one man named Moze and a girl named Addie. Addie is a girl who looks like a boy because of her outfit and short hair style plus she is smoking! Moze used to made love with Addie's mom when she was still alive. Her mom works as a bar woman. The story starts at Addie's mom funeral. Moze were asked to take Addie to her aunt in the town by her relative.
On the way, Moze always stop at the house where there is someone in the house has passed away. He sells over cost bible to those relatives of dead people. Addie saw the whole deveiving process and decide to help him. They were acting as a single dad and a duaghter.Since then they both turn to partner selling over cost bible.
Moze has lots of trick in cheating people. Addie learns those cheating process and observe everything around her. One day, they both run out of bibles, Addie saw one man selling illgal whisky to others. Both of them were trying to make money by steal the whisky of that man and sell back to him. They both got $625 and drive away from that town. On the way, the police were chasing them. Those police is a brother of that whisky seller. The police took both of them to the police station and ask where the money is (addie hides it in her hat). After that they both run away after addie could steal the car's key from the table.
Both of them drive to one farm where there is an old truck. Moze trade his brand new car with that old truck and drive away to the hotel. Those police were after him while addie is still in the hotel and moze is outside. Moze got beat up and all the money was gone.
Moze decide to send Addie to her aunt. Addie left her picture when she took it with a big paper moon as a background when they were at the fair. Moze saw it while he were stopping the car and saw addie runs after his car. Addie decided to leave her aunt's house and stay with Moze because she heard her aunt and her husband talking that they don't want her.
The movie represent great depression age when there were a prostitution. The women were trading sex with $5 Girls ran away from their hose since there were 15. One balck girl in the movie said that her mom doesn't want her until she could bring her money. Addie who is just 9 were smoking and deceiving people. Moze is trying everyway to find money. There were many trick in the movie showing how those people get the money. There were also a corruption between police and whisky seller. Everything they wanted at that time is being rich and earn enough to stay alive even though, they have to get money from the people who just lost their relatives.

Bobby Jones

----- Bobby Jones, another movie about glofing !!! -----

Bobby Jones has the official name that is Robert Tyres Jones Jr. He is a sickly child when he was young. When his dad goes to play golf with his friend, he always follow them. He always has a passion for golfing, Jones can copy the swing of every of his dad's friends. It was one thing that his dad always laugh about.

Jone's granfather is conservative, he wants jones to be a lawyer. Golfing is one thing that his granddad hates ( he even hates coca-cola because he is super conservative). Jone's dad always has a confict with grandpa. Even though his dad is not a good golfer but he's always socialize with friends in a golf club.

Jones practises golfing because of he loves it and wanted to win the games unlike the others who plays golf for money and throphy. However, he always being sick because of the weakness and the pressure of being a winner. He has to go seeing the doctor many times in his life.

When he was in the college, he met his wife (Mary). They both have two kids together while Jones always in the tournament and Mary's staying at home taking care of thier kids. Mary used to ask Jones to quit play golf because she cannot stand watching him being sick because of it. Jones didn't want to quit at first because there is one course that he's not win it yet, the grand slam.

After he wins the grand slam, he retired from playing golf as he promises his wife. Jones always do something for his family without worying about himself. He plays golf because his dad supports, he studied law because of his grandpa and he quits golfin because of his wife.

--- This is another good movie about glofing, Bobby Jones is a legend. He did many amazing shot that people didn't think that it will be possible plus he didn't do it because of money. I saw one scene, at that time they had a taxi!! and also i guess, most of the people were familair with coca-cola, teenagers drink it. Many things started at that time and still existing today, how amazing ---

After Midterm --- The Greatest Game Ever Played

This movie is fantastic, after i watched it i love golfing more!! It's about a British man ( Harry Vordon) competeing with American boy (Francis Ouimet) in the American opening. Francis is a caddie who used to meet Vordon when he was young. He worked for family as a caddie when he was just a little kid. Vordon is the first person who teaches him how to hit the ball rightly. Since then, Francis continue practises and has a chance to compete as an amateur golfer when he is 20.
Francis and Vordon have one thing in common that is they came from a poor family with the feeling that golf is a sport for rich people only. When Vordon was a kid, he lives in isle of jersey (UK.) people came and evicted his family out of the land. His land was used to bulid a golf court. Those men said to him that golf isn't a sport that person like Vordon should supposed to play. However, he's become one of the most famous golfer in both UK. and US. When he is playing golf, he will erase all the people who are standing there and focus on that hole only. Vordon is a great golfer in term of controling his nerve. When he could control he would play that game well.
In the game, Francis and Vordon were tied for 2 times. It was a game that people can't take the eyes off. Even though, Francis will not get anything if he wins but he's still want to prove himself probably for his Dad that he can do it. Finally, he won that game, people gave him money since he won't get any from the golf association but Francis gave all money to his caddie (Eddy) who is just a little boy that always skip the school to be a caddie for him.
In this age, people started using telephones, cars and other machines. They were also starting to play the sports such as tennis and badminton, golf is one of them. The movie showed me how people dressed, they wore suits and ties while playing golf! that's odd. I think it's the way to devide the people, golf is a sport for high class people at that time so they just have to be in styled. People dress beautifully everyday at that time. Children were going to college, in my opinion most of them go to boarding house school such as convent and stuff (as i've seen in the movie). I also learn more about two famous golfer, this is a great movie and i loved it!

Apache

This movie is about one tribe of native indian called "apache". This tribe was located in New mexico, Arizona and some part in texas ( the apache are now in Oklahoma and taxas). The Apacean called themselves as a warrior who are not easy to surrender. They always up against whites who are very cruel to them.

The movie talks about one apachean man who is considered to be the last person which surrender to whites. The man escaped while the train stopped and walking back to his apache land. No one have done such thing walking in a long distant. He is again the first person who did that in the apache history. While he was in his journey of escaping, he had a chance to go into the city centre and see all civilize things such as women wearing beautiful clothes, listening to the music and classy returant.

At his land, Whites forced them to build the road, the apachean have to work for the whites in their own land once they surrender to whites. Once the man got to his place, he was caught again by whites because of the betraying of his people. The movie goes on with the revenge and fighting between whites and apachean.

In my opinion, i think at that time the whites are cruel and mean. They acted like indain are slaves. Watching thier own people working for enemy in thier own land must be very odd thing. i think the apachen must be very angry and agressive according to what whites did to them. I've remembered one scene while white tied up the indains's hands and let them walk up to the mountain, one idian escaped and the white man shot him to death. It was like those idians are not worth for living and could die anytime.

However, i think that whites are not that great warrior comparing to the apachean. I think the apachean should have more skills because that what's they grew up with. The reason that they surrender to whites might be because of the whites have more people and power in politics. Whites people could invade the indains land at anytime while the indians have to time to protect themselves.

Civil War : Love Me Tender.

Love me tender is a civil war movie, it was the first movie of Elvis, well he was supposed to be the one that is suitable in his kind of movie for sure.

The movie is about the brothers and the family after the civil war. Three brothers were robbing the money and come back home when the war is over. They hide the money and didn't tell the rest of the family until the time comes. One day when the eldest brother (vance) is going away because he can't stand to see his little brother and his girl being a couple of husband and wife. However, there were a confederate soldiers came for them about the money that he robbed.

The story goes on with chasing and misunderstanding between the group and finally they give back the money but the younger brother shot dead.

Vance: he is the eldest brother who started the idea of sharing the money that they rob. he has a lover before going to the war for four years (cathy). As the war was over, he came back and found out the cathy already get married with his brother (clint). He is a leader like other man of the house in civil war period. he always tries to do the right things in the best way he could.

Clint: Presley acted in this character as a man who still doesn't know much about the war. He get married with cathy because they both thought that Vance was dead in the war. At the end of the movie, he turns to be a bad guy for a while because he thought that Vance and Cathy will run away with money together. He was shot dead while trying to safe Vance.

Cathy: She is still in love with Vance however, she tries to do the best things for all of them by still be with Clint. Cathy is a brave girl who was working around the house in the civil war time.

In my idea, i think this movie is a good one. I felt good that i have a chance watching this movie, the first movie of Elvis. It represents the way of life after the civil war just over. i still could see guns, robbers, railroad and betraying, the things i supposed to see in this period. However, it a movie that i can guess that someone might die at the end, sadly it's elvis!! :p. I also heard many songs in this movie, the songs that elvis sings. They are perfect, i love those songs and he dances well too!....he is a legend! Good in both acting and singing.....

Jim Thrope, the indian athlete

James Francis Thrope

Well, just got the special assignment from Ajarn which is to find infomation about Jim Thorpe....I have no idea who he is :p.....until i do the research.

He is an indian who was born in 1888 near Prague, Oklahoma. His Native American name was " Wa-tho-huck" which mean the bright path. His great-grandfather was a famous Indian leader called " black hawk".

I should say that his American Idain is very suitable for him! Trope was famous because he is one of the greatest athlete in the history who is Indain. I guess he plays almost every sports. According to the reference,he was a professional football and basketball player as well as baseball player. The best thing is he was the first president of the American professional Football Association.
